“Life grows in the soil of time”*
I needed a major revolution in my life. Sometimes, when you cannot do anything to change the situation you are trapped in, you can engage yourself in activities that you enjoy and leave alone your problems for a while. What I have experienced is not to let the devastating thoughts linger around for a long time. When your problems has become very complex, and when poking them brings more depression into your life, when no solution is in sight or the situation is not up to you to change it, it’s time to switch. I feel trapped in a futile cycle of desperate efforts of solution seeking. In these situations, a complete and clean break can help.
I bought a used collection of eleven volumes of Will Durant’s “Story of Civilization” on Amazon. I have started reading them one by one. It doesn’t matter how tired I am from the tedious chores of the daily life, but I am trying to fit as much as possible in my day. All backlogs of the books that were piling up on my desk are now added to my daily plans. Distraction is what I truly need at this period of my life, until I am distant enough from my problems so I can see them clearly and find a way to solve them, no matter how long it takes.

I remember years ago, a relative who was also very much into reading (one of that "nasle sookhteh" who got blocked by the "cultural revolution" of the universities in the early 80s, and his whole destiny was changed by that somehow), gave me three volumes of an abstract version of "story of civilization", translated in Farsi. I fell in love with the books, and received the rest of them (also in 10 volumes)one by one, as well. So your post and referral to the books brought me back some of those memories...
Sometimes I also pick the same strategy, although I describe it as "trying to soak and forget myself in another world"; whether it is a book, or a movie. Honestly, I haven't figured out a pattern to conclude if it's a good way to deal with the problems or not, but it certainly is better them banging my head to the wall!!
So, Crossing fingers that your head stays intact, and that at the best time and best situation, your problems get solved, enjoy reading the story of civilization :)
...Oh! BTW, try to find out what did we miss alongside the story that we (as a nation) ended up like this!!
